Raising a Family

Raising a Family • Bay City, Texas

When you are looking for a place to raise a family, our Bay City lifestyle encompasses wholesome family fun, quality educational and entertainment options, as well as a wide variety of outdoor activities.

The area hosts a local interactive children's museum, youth sports and clubs, and offers educational adventures in our nature parks.  Your family can experience canoeing, kayaking or fishing on area rivers.  Our mild weather added to our proximity to Gulf Coast beaches only adds to our year-round quality of life.

We don't let our small town environment get in the way of educating our children.  We use it as a platform for providing diverse, quality educational opportunities for our students.  The Bay City Independent School District (BCISD) serves an average of 4,000 students through three elementary schools, a junior high and a state-of-the-art high school.  Bay City schools offer a wide range of fine arts courses as well as career and technology education.   In coordination with Wharton Junior College, the district offers AP/Dual Credit courses and a career and technology articulated curriculum.   This articulation agreement lets our high school students earn credit for college majors while still in high school.   Students can choose from 50 Career and Technology Education (CTE) courses in ten different Career Pathways:  Agriculture; Health Science; Human Services; Hospitality and Tourism; Transportation; Distribution and Logistics; Manufacturing; Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics; Architecture and Construction; Arts and Audio Visual Technology and Communications; and Business and Finance.  Our younger students even have the opportunity to earn high school credits while in junior high.

Our schools have received State and National recognition for academics, building trades, auto mechanics, The National FFA Organization (FFA), National Forensic League, choir, band, HOSA-future health professionals and DECA.  Many of our graduates have gone on to complete their education at universities like Harvard, Princeton, Yale and Stanford.

Consturction is underway on a new junior high and work has begun on Tenie Holmes Elementary. These projects, along with updates on other elementary campuses and a new softball and baseball field at the high school, are part of a bond project that was passed in 2016.

I have lived in Bay City for 7 years after moving from the Deer Park area. We enjoy living in Bay City for many of the city's attributes; from the slow pace, friendly atmosphere to the close proximity to the beach and river. It is easy to be involved in the community's organizations because people are friendly and willing to help each other out. It is such a great welcoming culture from the Houston lifestyle.
